The junk we are asked to take most often

Most people ringing about junk removal for the first time want to know one thing: will you actually take this? Usually the answer is yes. Here is what comes up most often.

Furniture and mattresses

Couches, dressers, recliners and mattresses are the single most common call. They are bulky rather than heavy, which is exactly the combination that makes them awkward for two people and a car. Getting one down a basement stair or out of an upstairs bedroom is most of the job, and it is the part we are actually being paid for.

Appliances and electronics

Refrigerators, washing machines, dryers and stoves come out during nearly every kitchen or utility upgrade, usually at short notice because the new one is arriving. Televisions, monitors, computers and printers turn up in the same load. Both categories have disposal rules attached, which is a large part of why people would rather not haul them to the dump themselves.

Yard waste and storm debris

Branches, leaves, soil and cut brush build up faster than a green bin can cope with, and after a storm it arrives all at once. It is heavy, it is wet, and it does not fit in a car.

Renovation and construction debris

Timber, drywall, tile, flooring and scrap metal. Left in a pile it is a hazard on an active site, and it holds up the next trade. Clearing as the job goes rather than at the end is usually cheaper than one enormous final load.

Garages, basements and attics

The three rooms where things go to be forgotten. These are less about any single item and more about volume - old boxes, tools nobody has used in a decade, equipment that was kept in case it came in handy. Clearing one usually takes a truck rather than a trip.

The bigger jobs

Estate clear-outs, foreclosure and rental cleanups, and large outdoor structures like sheds and playsets. These need equipment and a crew rather than a van, and in the case of an estate they need handling with some care about what is kept.

What we cannot take

Asbestos, hazardous waste, fuel, paints and solvents, pool chemicals, propane tanks, car batteries, medicines and ammunition are all out, for health, safety and disposal reasons. Mention any of it when you call and we will point you at who can help.
